Responsibility
Has Its Rewards Succeeds with MLB, Launches Second Winning Season with NFL
Over 160,000 MLB fans pledged to be designated drivers at ballparks across the country
during the 2004 season. Two lucky winners will watch their favorite MLB Clubs play in the
World Series as a reward for their responsible decision to ensure their friends and family
got home safely and wore their safety belts.
Those designated drivers for the season will be acknowledged and shown live on the stadium
video board during the World Series game they attend followed
by a special message thanking all the fans that pledged to be designated drivers
throughout the season.
Additionally, one designated driver for the season from an MLB Clubs not
playing in the World Series will be randomly selected to win a trip to the 2005 All-Star
Game at Comerica Park in Detroit, MI.
TEAM is thrilled with the support the promotion received from MLB, the 30 Clubs, and
baseball fans. TV and radio public service announcements generated greater awareness as did
in-stadium messages.

GHSA Conference in Hawaii, Productive and Beautiful The
TEAM Coalition
exhibited at the Governor's Highway Safety Association conference
in Honolulu, HI. TEAM borrowed a tradeshow display from the Beer Institute that made our
booth look much more professional and convinced us to invest in our display for future
shows.
The conference set a new goal for traffic safety - Priority 1.0: reducing the traffic
fatality ratio to 1.0 per 100 million vehicle miles traveled from it's current rate of
1.48. TEAM Coalition and our programs are an important piece to accomplishing that goal.
Our messages to promote responsible alcohol consumption, positive behavior, designated
driver programs,
and safety belt use focus on key behaviors responsible for those fatal
traffic crashes. Also, because we reach out to sports fans, our message is heard predominantly by the same
demographic that is most at risk to drive drunk and not use safety belts - adult men under
35 years of age.
The conference was also an opportunity to network with state highway safety offices, NHTSA
staff and regional administrators, as well as other supporters of traffic safety messages.
TEAM made contact with State Farm Insurance, IACP (International Association of Chiefs of
Police), RADD, MADD, program evaluators, and several states.
Survey Reveals 9 in 10 College Students “Tailgate” Safely The
TEAM Coalition is one of several organizations including the NCAA, NASULGC (National
Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges), and Anheuser-Busch that
supported a recent study of college students who are college sports fans. 93 percent of
students surveyed say their behavior is responsible and safe during tailgating or pre-game
parties. The results will be used to generate a social norming messaging campaign for
colleges and universities to use in order to encourage appropriate behavior.
