Autumn 2002
Spring 2003 Volume 2, Issue 1

In a
demonstration of the power of this unique partnership, Major League Baseball
and its 28 clubs in the US have committed to training their operations
employees in effective alcohol management using the TEAM program in preparation
for the 2003 season. Ushers, ticket takers, security personnel, and parking lot
attendants will spend several hours learning to evaluate guests to spot those
that are at a high risk of becoming intoxicated (or already are) and how to
interact with those individuals to reduce the likelihood of alcohol-related
incidents.
The universal
acceptance of the TEAM program would not be possible without the financial
commitment from Beer Institute and its members. Anheuser-Busch, Miller, and
Coors are providing $4,000 in TEAM participant manuals to each club. The
donation is split between the local distributor and national brewer.
To further
acknowledge the success of this partnership, commemorative posters are being
produced. Designated driver booths at every stadium will be stocked with the
posters to remind the fans that TEAM is helping MLB and the nation’s brewers
succeed in making ballparks a safer place to enjoy a game. Posters will also be
distributed to the local sports media and city officials in each MLB market
along with a Rolodex mailer defining the TEAM Coalition. In addition, a
satellite media tour and radio tour featuring Kevin Hallinan, Sr. VP of
Security and Facility Management for MLB and the incoming TEAM Chairman, are
scheduled for Thursday March 27th and Friday March 28th,
respectively. Click on MLB
Training to read more about this effort.

April IDP is NFL-Focused The Instructor
Development Program (IDP) scheduled for April 10th and 11th
at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA – the new home of the New England Patriots
– is being marketed primarily to NFL stadium operators and concessions
managers. The date for the
workshop was selected to coincide with the schedule of stadium operators for
the NFL so that the new certified TEAM trainers that complete this While anyone is welcome
to attend the workshop, it is the hope of TEAM that appropriate scheduling of
IDPs will ensure consistent participation by each league. Currently, the
December and February IDPs are heavily attended by MLB managers. TEAM also
plans to offer an August IDP for NBA and NHL arena managers. |
June IDP Tailored to NCAA Ohio State University will
host the TEAM IDP on June 18th and The program is designed
for all universities – not just those that sell alcohol in the stadium. The
TEAM alcohol management training program focuses on employees like ushers,
ticket takers, and security personnel who have to interact with fans who may
already be intoxicated before they enter the stadium. Again, this workshop is
open to anyone who would like to attend. However, managers of university
stadiums and arenas are strongly encouraged to attend this workshop. Click on Registration Form to
register for either of the upcoming TEAM IDPs. |
