Semi-annual board meeting December 5th and 6th

The TEAM Coalition Board meeting this year can be more accurately described as a “Road Show.” Starting at noon on December 5th, Board members will attend the MLB stadium managers meeting in Baltimore, MD at Oriole Park at Camden Yards where TEAM is hosting a lunch. During the lunch, TEAM will award the first annual Championship Performance and Excellent Performer awards to clubs who have embraced the TEAM training program most effectively.

Following the lunch, the Membership and Finance committee meeting will discuss the TEAM budget for the next two fiscal years and Coalition membership growth. Immediately following the committee meeting and the Executive Board meeting, the road show will travel to New York City.

On December 6th the remainder of the committee meetings (Marketing and Training) and the Coalition meeting will be held at the National Hockey League Headquarters.

Anheuser-Busch, Miller, Coors, and their local wholesalers

will continue to contribute funds for MLB training in 2003

In a show of continued support of alcohol management training and the TEAM Coalition, the three major brewers – Anheuser-Busch, Miller Brewing, and Coors Brewing – are contributing $4,000 to the operations staff training of each Major League Baseball stadium. The contribution is a combination of funds from the national brewer and the local wholesaler that services the facility.

Between December 2002 and March 2003, nearly 10,000 employees of MLB stadiums are expected to be trained in identifying the signs of impairment, understanding blood alcohol content, and how to properly interact with guests. The funding from the brewers covers 90% of the cost of that training.

This coordinated effort between TEAM, the national brewers, local wholesalers, and Major League Baseball facilities is the model that TEAM hopes to expand to include the National Football League facilities and the facilities that host the teams of the NHL and NBA in the future.

Communication Plan for 2003

IDP registration closed for         December 2002, June 2003 added

Strat@comm has laid out a very aggressive communications plan for the TEAM Coalition to increase public awareness about the Coalition, its mission, and what its members and participating teams and facilities are doing to prevent drunk driving and make stadiums and ballparks safer for fans to enjoy the game. The major goals of the plan include:

·         Media outreach to national and local community-level press in key locations and industry publications that focus on sports, alcohol management, and drunk driving prevention

·         Highway safety community outreach to take advantage of national, state, and local efforts to utilize sports venues and franchises as channels to communicate the message of highway safety

·         Develop and publicize the model venue which has implemented the TEAM Coalition program from full-facility training to fan education and community outreach

·         Provide crisis communication tools to TEAM members and participating teams and facilities that demonstrate what providers of sports entertainment are doing to ensure fan safety while they enjoy the game

The Instructor Development Program (IDP) workshop scheduled for December 11th and 12 in Los Angeles at Dodger Stadium is now closed for registration. The workshop has over 32 registered attendees. It is the largest IDP workshop TEAM has held in over a year.

The IDP in Atlanta at the Atlanta Zoo on February 12th and 13th is the next opportunity to become a certified TEAM trainer or recertify for another two years. Register soon as spaces are filling up quickly.

The newest TEAM IDP has just been added on June 18th and 19th at Ohio State University. Registration forms for upcoming IDP workshops are available at www.teamcoalition.org. From the home page, click on the link for upcoming IDP sessions and then click on the registration form or recertification form to register.

Any facility or team interested in hosting an upcoming IDP should contact TEAM at info@teamcoalition.org to schedule a session. By hosting the IDP, the facility can certify two people as TEAM trainers at no cost.

Any certified TEAM trainer interested in becoming a Master Trainer who conducts the IDPs should also contact TEAM at info@teamcoalition.org. The application process is simple, and TEAM will cover your travel and hotel expenses to conduct at most two IDP sessions each year.
