Las Vegas, NV (February 13, 2003) – ARAMARK, a world leader in managed services, today was
recognized by the TEAM Coalition, Inc. (Techniques for Effective Alcohol Management)
for its commitment to promoting responsible alcohol consumption at sporting events.
ARAMARK facilities in six locations – Wrigley Field in Chicago, Network
Associates Coliseum in Oakland, Turner Field in Atlanta, Edison Field in
Anaheim, PNC Park at Northshore in Pittsburgh, and Coors Field in Denver – were
lauded for achieving an outstanding level of service training to staff
specifically designed to prevent alcohol-related incidents.
TEAM is an alliance of professional sports, entertainment facilities, the beer
industry, broadcasters and the government working to promote responsible
drinking and positive fan behavior at sports facilities. “We believe that
ARAMARK ranks at the top in the concessions industry in terms of its
commitment to alcohol service training,” Jill Pepper, TEAM Executive Director, said.
More than 5,000 people at the six ARAMARK facilities have undergone a training
program to educate employees about how to identify patrons at risk to
over-consume and how to interact with guests in a non-confrontational way to
help ensure everyone’s safety at sporting events.
“ARAMARK strongly supports alcohol server training for our staff at all of the
facilities in which we operate,” said Sean Rooney, Executive Vice President,
ARAMARK Sports and Entertainment. “It has proven to be an important safeguard
against the misuse of alcohol that benefits not just our employees but
ultimately protects our customers, the fans.”
TEAM was created in 1985 with a grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration. The organization encourages sports and entertainment facilities
to implement and enforce alcohol policies through a certified training program
that promotes responsible alcohol consumption and helps reduce alcohol-related
incidents both in facilities and on surrounding roadways.
The awards were presented today at ARAMARK’s corporate meeting in Las Vegas.
The corporation provides concessions, premium dining and retail sales at
over 100 premier sports and entertainment destinations, including stadiums,
arenas and amphitheaters.
ARAMARK is ranked No. 1 in the outsourcing services category and is among the Top 50
companies overall in FORTUNE Magazine's 2002 "Most Admired Companies in America."
Headquartered in Philadelphia, ARAMARK has approximately 200,000 employees serving
customers in 18 countries.
