Washington, DC (January 23, 2002) – Kevin Hallinan, Senior Vice President
of Security and Facility Management for Major League Baseball, was today
announced as Chairman of TEAM Coalition, Inc. (Techniques for Effective
Alcohol Management), an alliance of professional sports, entertainment
facilities, the beer industry, broadcasters and the government working
to promote responsible drinking and positive fan behavior at sports
facilities. Hallinan’s three-year term will begin in May 2003 when Joe
Pistone, Senior Vice President of Sports and Entertainment for ARAMARK,
steps down.
In making the announcement, TEAM Executive Director Jill Pepper said,
“Over the last 15 years, Kevin Hallinan has been unwavering in his
support of the TEAM approach and in working with his peers in other
sports leagues to articulate the need for this type of program in all
sports facilities.”
The TEAM Coalition received the 2002 National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration (NHTSA) Award for Public Service for its contributions
to reducing drunk driving by facilitating important changes in alcohol
management policies and practices. TEAM encourages facilities to implement
and enforce alcohol policies through a training program that educates
facility employees about how to identify patrons who may have over-consumed
and how to interact with fans in a non-confrontational way to avoid
problems.
“In today’s unsettling times, it is now more important than ever that
fans feel they can trust facility owners and managers to do everything
possible to ensure a safe, family-friendly environment,” said Hallinan.
“TEAM is first and foremost about responsibility, but we believe that
fun and safety need not be mutually exclusive,” he added.
Hallinan comes to the Chairman’s role with a strong background in
security issues. In his current position with Major League Baseball,
Hallinan has responsibility for crowd, alcohol and emergency management
at Major League parks across the United States and Canada. He is a
member of the Safety and Security Task Force with the International
Association of Assembly Managers and the Professional Sports Security
Group.
Prior to joining Major League Baseball, Hallinan retired from the New
York Police Department as Co-Commander of the F.B.I./N.Y.P.D. Joint
Terrorism Task Force. He has been cited on four occasions by the
Director of the F.B.I. for his contributions in the war on terrorism
and holds over 30 citations from the New York City Police
Department.
TEAM members include Major League Baseball, National Football League,
National Basketball Association, National Hockey League, NHTSA,
ARAMARK, Beer Institute representing Anheuser-Busch, Miller Brewing
Company, and Coors Brewing Company, and the National Association of
Broadcasters.
