The TEAM Coalition, Inc. (Techniques for Effective Alcohol Management)
received the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration)
Award for Public Service during the annual Lifesavers Conference in
Lake Buena Vista, FL on Tuesday, June 11, 2002 for exemplifying high
standards of achievement in the field of traffic safety. TEAM was
recognized for its outstanding achievement in providing the premier
alcohol service training program and fan education materials to sports
and entertainment facilities nation-wide in an effort to improve the
public’s safety before, during and after events.
TEAM’s Chairman, Joseph Pistone (Executive Vice President, ARAMARK),
accepted the award on behalf of the Coalition which is comprised of
the NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA, ARAMARK, the Beer Institute (representing
the major US breweries including Anheuser-Busch, Miller, and Coors),
the National Association of Broadcasters, and Health Communications,
Inc. (the provider of TIPS server training that helped develop
TEAM’s unique, full-facility training program on alcohol
management).
TEAM was honored with the Lifesavers Award because it has
been very successful in facilitating many changes in alcohol management
policies and practices that directly impact impaired driving in the last
decade. TEAM has succeeded in educating stadium personnel about facility
policies regarding responsible alcohol distribution and consumption and in
identifying the warning signs of intoxication in patrons of sporting and other
entertainment events.
The message that TEAM delivers is directed toward both the
stadium personnel through its server training program and the general public
through its fan education materials. TEAM’s mission is to provide effective
alcohol service training in public assembly facilities and promote responsible
alcohol consumption that enhances the entertainment experience, while reducing
alcohol-related instances both in facilities and on surrounding roadways.
