ALEXANDRIA, VA – TEAM Coalition (Techniques for Effective Alcohol
Management) is proud to add the National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA) to its list of
member organizations committed to promoting responsible
drinking and positive fan behavior at sports and entertainment facilities.
TEAM Coalition is an alliance of sixteen member groups including professional and collegiate sports, entertainment
facilities, concessionaires, stadium service providers, the beer industry, broadcasters,
governmental traffic safety experts and others.
TEAM Coalition members are united by a shared mission to provide effective alcohol
service training in public assembly facilities and promote responsible alcohol consumption
that enhances the entertainment experience while reducing alcohol-related instances both
in facilities and on surrounding roadways. To accomplish this mission, TEAM focuses on three main efforts –
- Training for facility employees in the effective sale, service, and
consumption of alcohol
- Promotional campaigns to encourage fans to designate a sober driver and
behave appropriately
- Defining, communicating and enforcing alcohol service and fan conduct
policies at sports and entertainment facilities
TEAM training involves employees from both concessionaires and facility operators.
Since 2001, over 100,000 facility employees from ushers and ticket takers to beer vendors
have become certified. In 2008, TEAM’s Responsibility Has Its Rewards™ promotion for
designated drivers counted half a million sports fans who pledged to be designated drivers
at MLB, MLS, NFL and NBA games. Both of those achievements were reached through the support
of beer distributors across the country.
“America’s 2,850 licensed beer distributors work tirelessly to keep their communities
and citizens safe – that’s why it is so important to them to make sure that alcohol is sold
within a regulated system and consumed in moderation, because alcohol is different,” said
NBWA President Craig Purser. “America’s beer distributors are excited to be joining TEAM
in promoting responsibility.”
According to TEAM Coalition Chairman and National Football League Vice President
for Security, Milt Ahlerich, “The NFL has a strong appreciation for TEAM's contributions
toward a positive game experience for our fans.
TEAM provides an excellent opportunity for the NFL to join with the other stakeholders to encourage
responsibility programs at our sports entertainment venues. The more organizations represented
on the Coalition, the better the game day experience will be for all sports fans.”
