For the fifth consecutive year, TEAM Coalition and Major League Soccer are supporting the designated driver programs at all MLS stadiums during the 2009 season with a special incentive. Every stadium offers fans a designated driver program. Fans who register to be a designated driver pledge to not drink alcohol, drive their friends and family home safely, and ensure that everyone always buckles up.

At the end of the 2008 season, one Designated Driver from each MLS club was selected as the Designated Driver for the Season for that club. The Designated Driver for the Season from the New York Red Bulls, Joy Finamore, and the Columbus Crew Sue Reichard. Each received a trip to MLS Cup™ 2008 in Carson, CA at Home Depot Center. A trip to the 2009 Pepsi MLS All-Star Game at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, UT was awarded to the of the Designated Drivers for the Season for the Chivas USA. Last year's winners of Responsibility Has Its Rewards MLS Cup™ 2007 prize were Kristin Fabbri, Designated Driver of the Season for the New England Revolution, and Joseph Yeado, Designated Driver of the Season for the MLS Cup™ 2007 Champion Houston Dynamo. The Pepsi MLS All-Star Game prize winner was Michelle Rosborough, the Designated Driver of the Season from the Los Angeles Galaxy. She and a guest attended the 2008 Pepsi MLS All-Star Game in Toronto, Ontario at BMO Field.

To promote this incentive, TEAM has produced TV and radio PSAs. The TV PSAs will air on local broadcast stations in MLS markets, and they will also be played on the video boards in stadiums.
